Opened in May 2023, our Riverside location is the largest Tap Room in Frederick, featuring plenty of seating, live music on weekends, events, a private event space, as usual, amazing beer!

Brewed onsite in historic Downtown Frederick, MD
Co-owners Paul Tinney and Matt Thrasher were home-brewing buddies long before Rockwell opened its doors in March 2017. Inspired by the beers they were making and the budding craft brewery scene in Frederick, Rockwell Brewery was born. The name is an ode to Tinney’s background as a designer of acoustic guitars and creating a theme of blending artisan work in craft beer and music.
Head Brewer, Scott McKernon, started brewing at home back in the early 90s out of necessity due to a lack of good beer available. With a background in Chemistry, a love of cooking, and inspiration from the growing availability of new ingredients, Scott has filled our taps with a wide variety of beer styles and flavor profiles. There is something on the “beer wall” that will please everyone, including but not limited to stouts, porters, reds, IPAs, blondes and the occasional barrel-aged.
In May 2023, our operation expanded to include our new, upscale, state of the art, Riverside location. Rockwell Riverside is the largest tap room in Frederick, and features 20 taps for specialty brews, a large upscale tap room, and private event space. You can find different musical acts here, events, food trucks, and so much more!

Q: Do you serve food?
A: YES! Rockwell Brewery NOW has it’s own kitchen! Serving delicious pub style Food. Menu is ever changing and expanding! Stop in for a bite today! FYI - Kitchen is closed Monday.
Q: Do you have Liquor & Wine?
A: YES! Rockwell Brewery NOW offers Wine; Cider and awesome Cocktails!
Q: Do you have Live Music?
A: YES! Every Weekend our Rockwell Stage is Rockin! We showcase a large variety of some of the best talent in the DMV! No One Delivers Like Rockwell! Check out our line-up in the Events Calendar. E-mail us if you have a band that you think would be a great draw for Rockwell.
Q: Can I host my Private Party - holiday party/bachelor(ette)/birthday party/fundraiser/wedding etc. - at your brewery?
A: Yes! We would love to have you. Please send us an email info@rockwellbrewery.com or fill out our Contact Us form with the details of your event and we will send over more information.
Q: Are dogs allowed?
A: As a production site, dogs are not permitted inside. BUT Yes, INSIDE only if they are considered a Service Animal!
A: Yes, OUTSIDE - Bring us all the dogs! They are welcome in our outdoor areas, please just ensure they are leashed and well behaved.
Q: Can we bring our own food or drinks?
A: No, sorry. We like to promote our own delicious food.
Exceptions: 1. In the Taproom - You can bring in Deserts, Cakes, Ice Cream, etc for Parties. 2. IF you have rented The Rapture Room for your private event, then YES, you can bring in your own caterer and food, however, you can not bring in outside drinks.
Q: Are you family friendly?
A: Of course! Feel free to bring your little ones, but be sure to clean up after them. Children MUST be supervised and watched at ALL times. Parent should not be less than arms reach away from the little critters at any time.
We have some games, but feel free to bring things to entertain them. Per county law, children are not permitted to sit at the bar and can not stay in the Taproom after 9pm.
Q: Do you sell anything Gluten Reduced?
A: YES! We usually have at least 1 beer on tap that is certified Gluten Reduced. AND our Seltzer is also Gluten Free.
Q: What size are your pours?
A: Most all of our full pint beers are 16oz pours - NOT 12oz or smaller. We do make some higher ABV beers that we serve in our 13oz glass. Our tasters are a big 5oz - NOT 3oz. We also offer 8oz Half Pints!
Q: Do you offer tours/tastings?
A: We are a small operation so at this time we offer informal tours on an ad hoc basis. We do offer tasters to purchase, four “packs”; 8 “packs”; or 1 or all 16!!
Q: Do you have any beer to go?
A: Sure do. We have 6 packs of Beers to go! AND You can either buy and fill one of our 64oz growlers or we are happy to fill another breweries CLEAN growler.
Q: Do you distribute your beer or can I buy a keg from you?
A: We are in a few local restaurants and liquor / retail stores. If you are a local restaurant or retail hoping to get us on tap, shoot us an email. AND YES, you can buy kegs and Cases directly from Rockwell!
Q: Are your beers any good?
A: You bet they are!! In Fact B.I.G. Juicy our Hazy NEIPA was voted Best Beer in Frederick!!!
